On June 9, 1800, a carriage rolled down Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia carrying a very important visitor. President John Adams had arrived to supervise the establishment of the executive departments in the new Washington City.
Both the Lloyd House and Gadsby’s Tavern still stand and are open to the public. Alexandria’s Office of Historic Alexandria has a variety of tours and programs throughout the year to help visitors enjoy “George Washington’s hometown.” 😊
Was going to comment and say the same thing. Doesn’t make me think any less of Dr. Chervinksy and her work. Looking forward to getting the book whenever it arrives.
So, I finally found the origin story for my once favorite bar at Eastern Market: Tunnicliff's. Thanks for the post and the book. I've ordered it from Barnes and Noble and it should be arriving soon. I'm looking forward to it.
Loving Making the Presidency but have a question. Is the letter from Adams the Duane has that forestalls his trial the same one published in the Aurora after Coxe gave it to Duane?
Hi. I enjoyed this brief piece of history. I was wondering if you have ever done any extensive history research following the Battle of Wounded Knee and the history of the American expansion into the west and up in Montana. Coupled with the growing tension with American government and the Native American tribes post 1890 and into the 20th century? If not, is there a good book you can recommend. I have found that this might be a good book to check out. American visions : the United States, 1800-1860 by Edward Ayers.

FWIW, the pre-order delay reflects poorly on the press and company, but not you. Keep up the great work.

Thank you both! I really appreciate the support.
Hi Lindsay... re: the pre-order campaign, my signed edition arrived in today's mail. No prob re: delay. Stuff happens.. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm so glad it finally arrived. And thank you for your patience.
And I'm loving it so far, was entirely worth the wait. So, thank YOU. 😉
Oh yay! I’m so glad to hear it.
Waiting hasn't been bad since I bought an Audible copy as well. It has been great listening so far.
We definitely understand it isn't you. It's them. Thanks for continuing to educate us on the early days of our government.
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
And I just took it out of the mailbox!

Was a pre-order done several months ago?
I did a pre-order campaign that ended on August 22. Turns out it was a bit of a mess in delivering the goods! You can now order the book wherever you like to buy books, including Amazon (which will deliver tomorrow). If you want a signed copy, you can order from Mount Vernon: https://shops.mountvernon.org/products/oxford-university-press-bk-making-the-presidency-36064?_pos=1&_sid=f30d7c18b&_ss=r. Thank you!
