“The appointment of a cabinet is one of the most important aspects of every transition. These choices set the tone for the coming term, reveal a president-elect’s preferences and ambitions, and offer early wins or losses. Given that cabinets are very much in the news, I thought a primer about where it started, how the cabinet has evolved, and some historic examples would be helpful.”

The Amos Akerman story is new to me. That's a positive tale of redemption. It feels good to read your insights again, Dr Chervinsky.

From statements recorded by news media, I suspect that Mr. Trump and his loyal followers with raise their hand for the Oath of Office declaring they will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United Sates, which in reality would be and definite lie.

He is already forming his Fascist administration of yes people who must declare fidelity to him alone and he will attempt to brow beat flag officers of the military to do the same or fire them.

If I show up with a placard of protest at the White House, he will proclaim me an insurrectionist in violation of the Constitutions guarantee of peaceful assembly and freedom of speech., then have the military arrest me which is another violation of the Constitution.

Why do you think Amos Akerman resigned? I am a wee bit skeptical that it was only to protest corruption in the Grant Administration. Do you detect any pressure from the railroads?
